National Hockey League: Women’s Division Back

0

After a period of nearly two months without league action in the Women’s division, the National Hockey League returns this weekend with Round Two.

Last year’s league runners up, Weatherhead (W) will kick-start the round on Saturday against Deliverance Church at the Hockey Grounds in Lugogo.

Weatherhead came close to winning the league last season, but they have endured a slow start to this campaign. They currently sit fifth in the table standings with a paltry 9 points, 10 adrift of leaders Wananchi.

They ended the first round terribly with an 8-1 whooping at the hands of Wananchi, but with Deliverance who sit just a place and a point above them on the table their Saturday opponents, they will fancy their chances to claim victory and get their season back on track.

Defending champions Kampala Hockey Club Swans will meet Wananchi-HDF on Sunday. They currently occupy the second position in the league with 17 points, two behind Wanachi, but they can go top on Sunday with victory as Wanachi will be out of action this weekend.

In the Men’s Division, Rockets will face Thunders on Saturday in their second game of the second round. Weatherhead Titans against City Lions will also be played on Saturday, but the weekend’s blockbuster game will happen on Sunday.

The game will feature Kampala Hockey Club Stallions who are currently placed second with 27 points and Wananchi who are third with 25.

It will be a repeat of the first round’s final game. KHC clinched that game, winning the tie 3-2.

Weatherhead, the defending champions and the current table leaders will be in action on Sunday. They will take on Badgers who sit fourth with 14 points with an ‘overwhelming favourites’ tag on them.

Timothy Ntumba- the club’s current top scorer with 18 goals will be expected to continue with his goalscoring form. Ntumba put six past their sister club Weatherhead Titans last weekend as Weatherhead beat the side 11-1 in their opening game of the second round.

Jordan Mpiima will also be expected to maintain his scoring fire when they face Wananchi. The KHC forward currently leads the goalscoring charts in the Men’s division with 22 goals.

He scored against Wananchi in their previous encounter, he will be expected to lead his side to victory on Sunday.
