Petty Parrish delivered a stellar performance to propel City Oilers to a crucial 70-64 victory over the KIU Titans, taking a commanding 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven National Basketball League (NBL) finals on Friday at Lugogo Indoor Arena.
Parrish continued to show exactly why Oilers shipped him in for these playoffs, scoring a game-high 34 points, including an impressive 6-for-10 from beyond the arc.
He also contributed five rebounds and four assists in what was a dominant display that kept the Oilers’ title hopes firmly on track.
City Oilers found themselves trailing 28-34 at halftime, but they staged a determined comeback in the second half. The Oilers outscored the Titans 25-15 in the third quarter, seizing a four-point lead heading into the final period.
KIU Titans made a brief resurgence at the start of the fourth quarter, with Joel Lukoji sinking a jumper to regain the lead. However, Lukoji was later temporarily forced off the court due to injury as the Oilers regained control of the game.
Titus Lual was another key contributor for the Oilers, recording a double-double with 10 points and an astounding 21 rebounds. Fayed Baale added 13 points to secure the victory.
For the Titans, Edgar Munaaba scored 14 points, Mpiya Juf added 12, and Peter Obleng chipped in with 10 points.
Despite out-rebounding the Oilers 50-45, the Titans were unable to capitalize and tie the series.
The loss leaves KIU trailing 2-0 in the series. They will now face a must-win situation in Game 3 on Sunday, where a defeat lays a platform high for a sweep.
