Nam Blazers made a commanding start to their National Basketball League semifinal series, defeating the KIU Titans 79-61 in Game One at Lugogo.

The Blazers took control early, racing to a 27-14 lead in the first quarter, and never looked back as the Titans struggled to find their rhythm.

The Titans’ offense faltered throughout the game, particularly from beyond the arc, where they missed 28 of their 31 three-point attempts. This allowed the Blazers to capitalize on their mistakes and maintain a comfortable lead.

Innocent Ochera was instrumental in the Blazers’ victory, recording a rare double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

He was supported by Jimmy Williams, who led all scorers with 21 points, while Joseph Chuma and Peter Cheng added 17 and 13 points, respectively.

For the Titans, Peter Obleng and Edgar Munaaba were the only players to reach double figures, scoring 19 and 12 points, respectively.

Despite their efforts, the Titans were unable to close the gap and will now have to regroup ahead of Game Two, which is scheduled for Sunday.

The Blazers now lead the best-of-five series 1-0 and are just two wins away from securing a spot in the final.

In the women’s semifinal, UCU Lady Canons also took a 1-0 series lead with a dominant 73-44 victory over the KIU Rangers.

Aziidah Nabayunga was the standout performer for the Lady Canons, delivering a double-double with 20 points and 18 rebounds.

Shakira Nanvubya added 17 points to the tally as the Lady Canons cruised to victory.

The Rangers struggled in the absence of their star player, Rose Mary Amaniyo, who is currently sidelined with an injury. Without her presence, the Rangers were unable to keep pace with the Lady Canons, who now have the upper hand in the best-of-five series.

Both the Blazers and the Lady Canons will look to build on their momentum as they head into their respective Game Two matchups this Sunday.

The Semis continue tonight as JT Lady Jaguars who eliminated KCCA Leopards face off with huge favourites and defending Champions JKL Lady Dolphins.

Nine-time winners City Oilers will be without Edrine Walujjo who is under investigation for allegedly trying to bribe (match-fixing) a Benin team last week at 3*3 Africa Nations League at Lugogo, take on UCU Canons.
