The National Consumer Commission has announced a recall of more than 25 000 Volkswagen Polo Vivo vehicles in South Africa.
The recall follows a notification from Volkswagen Group Africa over a faulty handbrake lever that may fail to engage properly.
The affected vehicles were made available for sale from February 2025 to February 2026, nationally.
Commission Spokesperson Pheto Ntaba urged motorists to contact dealerships to have their cars fixed.
“Also minimize parking your car uphill or downhill while you are still engaging with the supplier. You also need to contact them to ensure that you book your car in. They assured us that this is, they will require a few hours to fix this issue. So we understand that it’s about 25 000, just above 25 000 vehicles. It’s quite a lot. But the sooner you book your vehicle, the better. You leave it there for an hour or just half a day, and then you go back and collect your car.”
