Preview: Vipers start with NEC test
Vipers will look to kick off their title bid with a victory against NEC at Lugogo in their 2024/25 Uganda Premier League opener on Sunday.
After missing out on both the league and Uganda Cup last season, the Venoms are determined not to end another campaign empty-handed.
Many pundits have tipped them as favorites for this season, given the strength of their roster.
However, they will face a resilient NEC, who, following a strong debut season, will not be an easy opponent.
NEC finished sixth last season with 48 points, eight behind Vipers, who settled for third place.
NEC has made changes to their coaching staff, replacing Bastu Ssemuyaba with James Odoch as Assistant Coach.
They have also added new players, including Hannington Ssebwalunyo, Amir Kakomo, Patrick Bayiga, Jacob Okao, Isma Kawawulo, Dickson Niwamanya, Paul Mucureezi, and James Jarieko.
In response, the Vipers have strengthened their squad with the additions of Kenneth Kimera, Derrick Ndahiro, Nicholas Wadada, Gusto Mulongo, Pedro Sukuya, and goalkeeper Bashir Ssekagya.
