Kampala– The head of Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has announced that they will be supporting Hon. Thomas Tayebwa on position of Deputy Speaker in the 12th Parliament.

“On the issue of Deputy Speaker, after getting guidance from the Commander-in-Chief, all PLU MPs and PLU leaning MPs will support Rt.Honourable @Thomas_Tayebwa for that position. Congratulations Rt.Honourable.” remarked Gen Muhoozi via his official X handle.
Recently, after concluding his tenure as Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Thomas Tayebwa stated that he is willing to take up any assignment that the head of State may seem fit for him.
PLU earlier on endorsed Hon. Maxwell Oboth Oboth as the Speaker for the 12th Parliament and this decision was supported by majority of the newly sworn in PLU, NRM and all leaning legislators.
Voting of the new Speaker and his Deputy is expected to be held on 25th May 2026.
