Local Leaders in Mukono Push for Improved Service Delivery


Mukono District Chairperson, Hon. Francis Lukooya Mukoome, has called for greater accountability in the management of public resources, improved service delivery, and increased investment in agriculture as key drivers of sustainable development in the district.

The call was made during a stakeholders’ engagement meeting held at Ntenjeru-Kisoga Town Council Headquarters. The meeting brought together members of the District Executive Committee led by the Vice District Chairperson and Direct District Councillor representing Ntenjeru-Kisoga Town Council, Hon. Innocent Tumwesigye, District Speaker Hon. Hajji Asuman Muhumuza Lubowa, Ntenjeru-Kisoga Town Council Mayor Hon. Kagwa Mike, Principal Town Clerk Ms. Mirembe Dinah, technical staff, and other stakeholders.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Francis Lukooya Mukoome emphasized the importance of transparency and responsible utilization of public resources. He warned civil servants against misappropriating government funds and urged all public officials to uphold integrity, accountability, and professionalism while serving the people.
The District Chairperson noted that resources allocated for development programmes should be utilized for their intended purposes to ensure that communities receive quality services and benefit from government interventions.
He further called upon leaders at all levels to work together in promoting good governance and strengthening public trust through accountability and effective service delivery.
Hon. Lukooya also commended leaders who continue to advocate for infrastructure development, particularly road improvement programmes aimed at enhancing transportation and supporting economic growth within the district.
During the meeting, district leaders informed stakeholders that government had provided an ambulance to serve Mukono South, a move expected to improve emergency healthcare response and strengthen health service delivery in the area.
On matters of agriculture, leaders emphasized the need for modernization and adoption of innovative farming practices as a pathway to increasing household incomes and ensuring food security.
Stakeholders were encouraged to embrace irrigation technologies and greenhouse farming, with leaders noting that even small pieces of land can generate significant income when utilized efficiently.
Hon. Lukooya revealed plans to rehabilitate an existing irrigation facility to support farmers and boost agricultural productivity across the district. He also underscored the importance of expanding access to water services to support both domestic consumption and agricultural production.
The District Chairperson further addressed concerns related to land management, urging residents to resolve land disputes peacefully and through lawful procedures.
He cautioned community members against engaging in illegal land transactions and advised residents to carefully consider the long-term value of their land before making decisions to sell.
Leaders also encouraged citizens to respect property rights and work together to maintain peace and harmony within their communities.
The meeting provided an opportunity for stakeholders to discuss development priorities and explore practical solutions to challenges affecting service delivery, agriculture, infrastructure, and community development.
The stakeholders’ engagement at Ntenjeru-Kisoga Town Council highlighted Mukono District’s commitment to promoting accountability, strengthening service delivery, and transforming agriculture as key pillars of development. Leaders emphasized the importance of integrity in public service, responsible management of government resources, and community participation in development programmes.
Stakeholders expressed optimism that continued collaboration between political leaders, technical staff, and local communities will accelerate socio-economic transformation across the district. Through improved governance, agricultural modernization, enhanced healthcare services, and peaceful management of land matters, Mukono District aims to create sustainable opportunities that improve the livelihoods of its residents and drive long-term development.
