Six ,bishops, , dioceses , Church of Uganda, retire ,John Wilson Nandaah, Mbale Diocese, Amos Magezi, ,North West Ankole Diocese, Patrick Wakula, Central Busoga Diocese, Gaddi Anjuna, , Kigezi Diocese, Sheldon Mwesigwa, Ankole Diocese, Dan Zoreka, Kinkiizi Diocese,Bishop Samuel Gidudu of North Mbale Diocese revealed this during a confirmation service for about 30 children at Bumwambu Parish Church of Uganda under Bulago Archdeaconry, Northern Mbale Diocese in Lusha Sub-county, Bulambuli District.Gidudu said the retirement of the bishops will allow the church to appoint their replacements ahead of the election of the next Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, which is scheduled for 2027 to replace The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu.According to the Constitution of the Church of Uganda, candidates for election as bishops must be between 45 and 65 years of age, have served as priests for at least 10 years, hold a Bachelor’s degree in Theology or a Diploma in Theology alongside another degree, be born-again Christians, married in church, and have a good record of service.Bishop Gidudu urged parents to ensure that children receive a religious upbringing, saying this will help raise responsible and God-fearing members of society.He also criticized parents who allow children to engage in activities such as drug abuse and alcohol consumption, saying such behaviours are affecting communities in Bugisu.A full analysis of the retiring Bishops’ tenure in office, their successes, failures and controversies will be in our subsequent publication.GOT A HOT STORY?
