The battle for knockout qualification at the ongoing 2026 USSSA National Boys Football Championship in Lira City is already taking shape after eight schools maintained perfect records with maximum points from their opening two group matches.
As Match Day Two concluded, several traditional football giants and emerging contenders sent strong warnings to the rest of the field with dominant performances marked by attacking efficiency, tactical discipline and defensive solidity.
Tournament favourites Buddo Secondary School underlined their championship credentials in Group A after securing back-to-back victories without conceding a goal. The former champions have scored five goals in two matches, a statement that they are determined to reclaim the national title.
Kyadondo Secondary School also continued their impressive start in Group E. The Kampala-based side collected six points from two outings, scoring four goals and conceding only once to establish themselves as early favourites to progress to the knockout stages.
Group F has so far produced one of the competition’s biggest talking points with both Amus College School and Mukono Kings High School registering perfect starts. Amus have particularly stood out defensively after keeping consecutive clean sheets while scoring four goals, highlighting their balance at both ends of the pitch.
In Group G, football powerhouse Ssingo Secondary School looked sharp and composed as they cruised through their opening fixtures. The Mityana-based giants scored five unanswered goals to maintain their flawless run and strengthen hopes of another deep campaign at the national championship.
Host region Lango found reason to celebrate through NUMASA Secondary School in Group I. Backed by home support, NUMASA emerged as one of the tournament’s most entertaining sides after scoring six goals on their way to two consecutive victories.
Mvara Secondary School continued their fine run in Group J with disciplined performances that earned them six points from two matches. Their four goals scored have pushed them closer to securing a place in the Round of 32.
Meanwhile, Greenlight Islamic School announced themselves as surprise early contenders in Group K. Their attacking style has produced six goals while conceding only once, making them one of the standout teams after the opening rounds.
Aiden College Wakiso completed the list of schools with maximum points after dominating opponents in Group N. Aiden have been among the tournament’s most ruthless attacking teams, scoring seven goals in just two matches to emerge as serious contenders.
