Latifah Mixed SS Defy Odds to Retain Mukono District Girls’ Football Crown | Voice of Bugerere

Latifah Mixed Secondary School put up a spirited and determined performance to successfully defend their title at the Mukono District Girls’ Football Qualifiers, held on Friday, April 10, at St. Joseph’s SS Naggalama.
Coming into the tournament under pressure, Latifah defied the odds and proved their resilience by overcoming strong competition on their way to lifting the trophy once again. In the final, they delivered a clinical display to defeat Seroma Christian High School 2-0. Prolific striker Joan Namutwa was the hero of the day, scoring a well-taken brace that sealed victory and capped off a remarkable tournament for the forward.
Latifah’s journey to the final was equally impressive. In the semi-finals, they comfortably saw off Merryhill Christian High School with a 2-0 win. Goals from team captain Pauline Namulinda and Jesca Mirembe ensured their place in the final, highlighting the team’s depth and attacking strength.
In the other semi-final, Seroma Christian High School edged past Mukono Kings High School in a dramatic encounter. After a goalless draw in normal time, Seroma held their nerve to win 3-2 in a penalty shootout, booking their spot in the final against Latifah.
Individual brilliance was also recognized at the tournament. Joan Namutwa emerged as the top scorer with an astonishing 23 goals, underlining her consistency and goal-scoring ability throughout the qualifiers. Meanwhile, Latifah’s captain Pauline Namulinda was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP), a testament to her leadership and influence in guiding her team to back-to-back titles.
In other finals played across various categories, Mukono Kings High School triumphed in the Boys’ Football final after defeating Seroma Christian High School in a penalty shootout. Hamdan claimed the Netball U17 championship, while Seroma Christian High School secured the Boys’ U17 Volleyball title. In the Girls’ U17 Volleyball category, Mt. St. Mary’s College Namagunga emerged victorious.
Latifah Mixed SS’s successful title defense not only highlights their dominance in girls’ football within Mukono District but also reflects their determination, teamwork, and winning mentality.
