\nThis site\u2019s Project Not Alone has received enough money from readers to set free three innocent lesbians, but five innocent gays remain behind bars in Cameroon and Nigeria.
\nAs of the publication of this article, donors had contributed $951 \u2014 enough to pay the $639 in fines owed by Addie, Diane and Sonia, who have been in prison since November.\u00a0 They can be released as soon as those fines are paid, which is why they will be the first to be freed.
\nThe other five innocent LGBTI prisoners will only be released in the months ahead if further donations arrive. The five men are:
\nIn Yaound\u00e9, Cameroon:<\/p>\n
Cam, a gay man serving a two-year sentence for homosexuality after his partner\u2019s parents reported him to police in December 2025.
\nSerge, Tristan and Edgar, \u00a0three gay men\u00a0who are awaiting trial on homosexuality charges. They were arrested in January after homophobic neighbors reported them to police.<\/p>\n
In Port Harcourt, Nigeria:<\/p>\n
Chidi, a gay man\u00a0who was imprisoned last November after being blackmailed by a sexual partner.<\/p>\n
Even with lawyers working for them without pay, the work of setting them free will require paying many more legal expenses than the $639 in fines owed by Addie, Diane and Sonia. Fundraising for Project Not Alone 2026 has an overall goal of $10,117.\u00a0 Of that total, $6,617 is for our first priority \u2014 releasing prisoners.

If possible, an additional $3,500 would be used to make mandatory technological modernization of the free Qtalk app, which has offered private counseling to LGBTQ+ Nigerians since it was launched in 2020. Qtalk now has a community of over 25,000 users, both for counseling and for chatting. Currently there are about 18 counselors on the app.<\/p>\n
