By Evans NajunaKAMPALA: Newly appointed Local Government Minister Balaam Barugahara, alongside State Minister Justine Nameere, officially took charge of the ministry on Friday, promising a new era of teamwork, accountability and improved service delivery.In his first address after assuming office, Balaam praised the outgoing ministers for laying a strong foundation in local governance and vowed to build on their achievements.\u201cWe shall build upon this legacy with humility and determination,\u201d Balaam said.The outspoken minister immediately set the tone for his leadership, calling on ministry staff and local government leaders across the country to embrace patriotism, professionalism and teamwork.In a stern warning, Balaam declared that gossip, intrigue and workplace divisions would have no place under his watch.\u201cThere shall be no room for gossip, intrigue, or divisions that undermine institutional effectiveness,\u201d he said, urging staff to promote open communication and collaboration.Balaam also sent a strong message to corrupt officials, emphasizing that public resources belong to Ugandans and must be used responsibly.\u201cCorruption, abuse of office, and all forms of mismanagement will not be tolerated,\u201d he warned.The minister pledged to strengthen accountability, integrity and time management throughout local governments, insisting that every public servant must justify the trust placed in them by citizens.Looking ahead, Balaam revealed plans to invest heavily in training and capacity building for elected leaders and technical officers to improve service delivery and help local governments tackle emerging challenges.Among the immediate priorities on his agenda are the forthcoming LCI elections, which he said require collective effort and unity to ensure success.\u201cWe must work together as one team, united by a common purpose of improving service delivery and strengthening local governments,\u201d he said.Drawing inspiration from the Bible, Balaam quoted Colossians 3:23, urging public servants to work wholeheartedly and diligently.With both Balaam and Nameere now officially in office, all eyes will be on the new leadership team as they seek to transform local governance and deliver results for Ugandans.\u00a0About Post Author
