\nLubiri Secondary School emerged as the new kings of Kampala regional football after a thrilling 5-3 penalty shootout victory over Kibuli SS in a tense final of the USSSA Kampala Regional Qualifiers held at Hamz Stadium.
\nThe much-anticipated clash lived up to expectations, with both sides displaying determination, tactical discipline, and moments of brilliance that kept fans on edge throughout the contest.
\nKibuli SS started strongly, pressing high and creating early chances, but Lubiri SS remained composed, relying on disciplined defending and quick counterattacks. The turning point of the match came in the 20th minute when Kibuli\u2019s captain was sent off after a foul on Abui Malith, giving Lubiri a numerical advantage.
\nDespite being reduced to ten men, Kibuli SS showed resilience and continued to match Lubiri\u2019s intensity. The first half ended evenly poised, with both teams still in contention.
\nIn the second half, Lubiri SS grew in confidence, controlling possession and dictating the tempo. However, Kibuli\u2019s defense held firm under pressure, forcing the match into a stalemate by full time.
\nWith no breakthrough, the final was decided by penalties. Lubiri SS kept their composure, converting their chances to seal a 5-3 win and spark celebrations among players and supporters.
\nThe victory marks a historic milestone for Lubiri SS, highlighting their teamwork, discipline, and determination, and cementing their status among the top school football teams in the region.
\nKibuli SS, despite the painful defeat, earned praise for their spirited performance, especially after playing most of the match a man down\u2014showing promise for future competitions.
\nThe final was graced by Justus Mugisha, president of the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association.
\nKampala Representatives to Nationals Confirmed
\nFollowing the conclusion of the qualifiers, Kampala region will be represented by five schools at the upcoming USSSA National Boys Football Championship to be held in Lira.
\nThese teams will now carry Kampala\u2019s hopes to the national stage as they compete against the best school sides from across the country.
