\nBukedea Comprehensive Secondary School etched their name into the history books after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Standard High School Zana (STAHIZA) secured them a maiden place among the last eight at the USSSA Girls Football Ball Games I Championship.
\nIn a gripping round of 16 encounter, Bukedea showed resilience and character to overcome a highly fancied STAHIZA side, winning 4\u20133 on penalties after normal time had ended 1\u20131. On paper, STAHIZA appeared the stronger side with greater pedigree, and they looked on course to progress after taking the lead early in the second half.
\nAsiyanzi Lillian put STAHIZA ahead just eight minutes after the restart, rising highest to head home and give her side control of the tie. They attempted to manage the game thereafter, but Bukedea refused to back down, pushing forward relentlessly despite squandering several chances.
\nTheir persistence finally paid off in dramatic fashion deep into stoppage time. With the clock ticking into the final minute of added time, Mercy Nassimbwa rose to the occasion, converting a well-delivered corner from Ritah to level the contest and send Bukedea fans into wild celebrations.
\nBukedea had earlier come close through Ritah, whose in-swinging corner rattled the woodwork, but the equaliser ensured the match would be decided from the penalty spot. Holding their nerve, Bukedea triumphed 4\u20133 in the shootout to seal a historic qualification to the quarter-finals.
\nThey now face a stern test against arch-rivals Amus College in the last eight, as the competition intensifies.
\nElsewhere, reigning contenders continued to stamp authority, with St Noa Girls hammering Moyo Star High 5\u20130, while Kawempe Muslim dispatched St Charles Kasasa 4\u20131. Rines SS secured a comfortable 2\u20130 win over Nkoma SS, and Amus College delivered one of the most dominant performances of the round, thrashing Sacred Heart Girls 6\u20130.
\nLatifah Mixed Secondary also progressed after edging Uganda Martyrs High School 6\u20135 on penalties following a 2\u20132 draw, while Jinja Progressive and Boni Consillii completed the quarter-final lineup with convincing wins
