NRM’S National Treasurer, Amb. Nekesa Celebrates M7’s Win In Bukeddi Sub-region Like Never Before


The National Resistance Movement National Treasurer, Ambassador Hon. Nekesa Barbra Oundo is in jubilation after delivering for President Museveni in Bukeddi Sub-Region. Based on the recent results of the 2026 Ugandan general election reported in January 2026, President Yoweri Museveni of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) won the Bukedi sub-region 85%Here are the key details from the 2026 election in Bukedi:Vote Count: Museveni secured 526,385 votes in the sub-region.The districts that make up Bukeddi include: Palisa, Busia, Budaka, Tororo, Namayingo and kibuku Opposition Results: National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) received 99,520 votes.Turnout: While Museveni won, the reports indicate that out of 1,151,037 registered voters in Bukedi, 682,171 turned up, leaving 468,866 registered voters who did not participate.The NRM members, most especially Nekesa worked to solidify support in this region, with leaders earlier in the campaign period emphasizing the need to combat the rising influence of opposition parties like NUP.It should be noted that from November 2025 regarding the lead-up to the 2026 general election, President Yoweri Museveni has been actively working to regain and strengthen support in Busia District, which was a challenging area for his party in 2021. Key Aspects of Museveni’s Performance and Activity in Busia:2025 Campaign Rally: In November 2025, Museveni held a major campaign rally at Buwanda Primary School, described as a “mammoth crowd” and one of the largest in the Bukedi Sub-Region. This rally was designed to boost the NRM’s 2026 agenda.Addressing 2021 Setback: The National Resistance Movement (NRM) is aggressively working to reverse the 2021 results where the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) narrowly beat Museveni in the district (47% to 46.3%).Focus on Development and Infrastructure: During his 2025 visit, Museveni highlighted infrastructure improvements, including:Upgraded roads (Jinja-Bugiri, Musita–Namayingo–Majanji).Expansion of electricity and water access.Commissioning of the Busia One-Stop Border Post to facilitate trade.Social Service Upgrades: He emphasized plans for improved health services, including upgrading several Health Centre IIs (Namungodi, Tiira, Lumino) and constructing a new Health Centre III in Masafu.Wealth Creation Emphasis: The NRM has intensified grassroots mobilization,, specifically using the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga funds to boost support.Supporter Confidence: Supporters and local leaders have expressed increased confidence, with some claims suggesting enhanced mobilization has boosted support. Despite these efforts, the opposition, particularly NUP, has maintained a strong presence, setting up a competitive environment for the 2026 elections.
