Nsibambi Injured After Propelling KCCA to the Top
Tuesday, October 1*UPDF 1-0 Wakiso Giants*Bright Stars 0-1 KCCA
Derrick Nsibambi left Kavumba with mixed emotions after sustaining an injury in a game where his crucial goal helped KCCA FC edge Bright Stars 1-0 in the Uganda Premier League.
Nsibambi scored the match’s only goal, receiving a pass from Saidi Mayanja before unleashing a shot that deflected past Bright Stars goalkeeper Emmanuel Were at the half hour mark.
However, his joy was short-lived as he was forced off the field before the second half began, limping and strapped with a bandage on the lower thigh of his left leg. Emmanuel Anyama replaced the striker.
The injury casts doubt on Nsibambi’s availability for Uganda’s upcoming World Cup Qualifiers doubleheader against South Sudan.
He played the Bright Stars game hours after he had been recalled to the Uganda Cranes squad, marking his first national team call-up since 2021.
This goal against Bright Stars was Nsibambi’s second of the season, having netted his first against Kitara.
Despite the injury, his form has been promising, although he did miss a chance earlier in the game when he rounded the goalkeeper but failed to score from a tight angle.
KCCA were the better side throughout the match and could have increased their margin if not for some missed chances.
Hassan Muhamud struck the crossbar from an Ashraf Mugume corner, and Anyama was denied by an excellent save from Were.
Bright Stars fought hard but were unable to find an equalizer. Nelson Ssenkatuka missed a close-range tap-in, and Shafic Kakande was thwarted by KCCA goalkeeper Mutwalibu Mugolofa.
At the back, KCCA’s defense, led by the solid Mustafa Mujuzi, ensured the victory.
The win, KCCA’s third of the season, lifts them to the top of the table with 10 points and marks their first away victory against Bright Stars since 2020.
The Kavumba-based side remains winless after four games.
