Meyiwa murder trial: Ntanzi challenged over photos taken in prison

The state in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial is expected to continue questioning the second accused, Bongani Ntanzi, regarding photos downloaded from his phone.
The state says the photos were taken after Ntanzi was arrested in June 2020, and has emphasised that the accused was using his cellphone while in prison.
Ntanzi and four co-accused are on trial in the North Gauteng High Court for the 2014 murder of the Bafana Bafana captain.
State prosecutor Advocate George Baloyi says the photos are relevant evidence and denies they have been tampered with.
“We submit, My Lord, that the photos are relevant. Um, we have been debating since last week as to whether the accused had a cellphone device in the cells, and the photos that we are showing tend to show the metadata of when those photos were taken.”
“And these are photos of the accused; he doesn’t deny it himself. So we submit that, therefore, the cross-examination is admissible [and] it is relevant. Warrant officer Ndlovu authenticated the photos,” adds Baloyi.
