The National Unity Platform (NUP), led by Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya, has formally requested permission from the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs to use Kololo Ceremonial Grounds for their upcoming anniversary event.
In a letter dated July 9, NUP emphasized the historical significance of Kololo Ceremonial Grounds and the expected large turnout for their event, which will mark four years since the party’s unveiling on July 22.
The event is themed “Four Years of NUP: The Milestones Reached, the Obstacles Encountered, and a Glance into the Future.”
“We accordingly request to hold this event at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, given its historical significance as well as the anticipated number of people at the event,” part of the letter read.
The letter also outlined the proposed schedule for the event, set to begin at 9 am and conclude at 6 pm. NUP noted that they were informed the grounds are under the supervision of the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs and requested information on the necessary fees and arrangements.
NUP assured that they are willing to adjust their program to another date before the end of August 2024 if the grounds are unavailable on July 22.
Although the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs acknowledged receipt of the letter, they had not provided a comment by press time.
