NUP Secures Sweeping Victories in Central Uganda as 2026 Parliamentary Results Roll In » The Hoima Post –

KAMPALA, UGANDA — The National Unity Platform (NUP) has secured decisive parliamentary victories across several key constituencies in Central Uganda, as early official results from the 2026 general elections confirm a powerful surge for the leading opposition party.
Results announced by the Electoral Commission on Saturday show NUP candidates winning parliamentary seats in several strategic divisions within Kampala and the greater Central Region. The wins underscore a significant consolidation of opposition support in urban areas and signal a potential shift in the political landscape.
In Nansana Municipality, Zambaali Bulasio Mukasa of NUP has been declared the Member of Parliament-elect, defeating his closest rival from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) by a substantial margin.
In Kawempe Division North, NUP’s Luyimbazi Nalukoola Elias has won the parliamentary seat, continuing the party’s stronghold in the division. Similarly, in Kampala Central Division, David Lewis Rubongoya—a prominent figure within NUP—has been elected, securing a critical seat at the heart of the capital.
Perhaps one of the most notable victories comes from Kalungu County East, where Jsuf Junior Nkerettanyi, running on the NUP ticket, has unseated the incumbent. This result is particularly significant as Kalungu lies within the greater Masaka sub-region, an area with complex political allegiances and a history of competitive races.
“The people have spoken with clarity. This is a rejection of business-as-usual politics and a demand for genuine representation,” said a senior NUP official following the announcements. “These results reflect the hard work of our candidates and the overwhelming desire for change among Ugandans, especially the youth.”
The sweeping wins for NUP in these constituencies align with earlier reports of strong opposition performance during the voting process, despite widespread challenges including biometric kit failures and an election-day internet shutdown.
While the Electoral Commission continues to tally results from across the country, the early outcomes from Central Uganda suggest a highly competitive election that may reshape the composition of the next parliament. The ruling NRM, which has historically dominated the legislature, is facing its most formidable challenge in years.
Analysts note that NUP’s success in these areas was driven by effective grassroots mobilization, a focus on socio-economic issues affecting urban dwellers, and a strategy of fielding candidates with strong local ties.
As the nation awaits the final presidential result, due later today, the parliamentary victories for NUP have energized its supporters and set the stage for a potentially more robust and diverse opposition in the 11th Parliament.
