Uganda’s Gloria Muzito shattered the national record in the Women’s 100m freestyle, clocking an impressive 55.95 seconds at the Paris Olympics on Tuesday.
Muzito had previously set the national record at 56.01 seconds earlier this year while securing a bronze medal at the African Games.
Despite her record-breaking swim, Muzito faced tough competition in her Olympic debut on Tuesday.
She finished at the bottom of Heat Four, which was won by Singapore’s Tokyo silver medalist, Siobhan Bernadette Haughey.
Across all the four heats, Muzito’s time placed her 22nd out of 29 athletes, with only the top 16 advancing to the semifinals.
While she did not qualify for the next round, Swedish-born Muzito will hope to build on this performance in future Championships.
Uganda took two Swimmers at the Olympics, with Jesse Ssengozi taking to the Pool on Friday in the 100m Butterfly.
