Former Uganda Hippos forward Raymond Onyai has signed a two-year deal with PE SC in Abu Dhabi, from newly promoted Uganda Premier League (UPL) side, Police.

Onyai left the Cops after they had qualified to the UPL as champions to join the third division club in the capital of the United Arab Emirates.

Onyai is at the UAE side with two other Ugandans, including Lugazi’s topscorer last season, Ronald Ssempala and Rashid Mukungu from Gaddafi.

Onyai has gained wide experience playing at different competitive levels of Ugandan football. The Bugisu Province starboy formerly played for Kataka and Mbarara City, plus the National U-20 Team.

Following Police’s Big League triumph last term, a number of local teams expressed interest in signing Onyai, who instead opted for a deal overseas.

During the early stages of the transfer window, BUL had inquired about Onyai’s availability, while Bright Stars also closely monitored his contract situation at Police.

Meanwhile, Mbarara City also had serious intentions to lure their former player back to Kakyeka stadium, where he had been for three years, from 2019-2022.

The striker’s versatility allows him to thrive anywhere across the front line, he can comfortably lead the attack, as well as play effectively on the left wing, right wing, and in the attacking midfield role.

Onyai finished his High School education at Amus College, from where he was scouted into the KCCA academy before joining Kataka in 2016.

For the National Team, the striker notably won the 2020 CECAFA U-20 in Tanzania to qualify the team to AFCON U-20 in Mauritania.
