Pastor Remanded Over Erection Of Structures In Wetland – Plus News
A born – again pastor has been sent on remand at Luzira prison for depositing soil in a wetland and erecting structures without an assessment impact report from the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA).
Pastor Milton Twehangane, a resident of Kirinya – Bweyogerere in Wakiso District has appeared before the Utilities and standards court at Buganda Road and denied four counts related to failure to undertake an Environmental Impact Assessment.
The pastor appeared before Chief magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu on Tuesday afternoon.
Court heard that on 19 October 2023 at Bukasa Veteran zone in Kirinya – Wakiso district, Pastor Twehangane was found constructing permanent buildings in a wetland without undertaking an environmental and Social Impact Assessment in Accordance with the law.
He is also accused of conspiring with others who have not yet been arrested to commit an offence of damaging a wetland for purpose of sale.
Twehangane will return to court from prison on the April 8th 2024 for hearing of the case.
