Phala Phala trial adjourned due to investigator’s ill health


The Phala Phala farm theft trial in the Modimolle Regional Court in Limpopo has been adjourned to Monday next week.
This is due to the ill health of the investigating officer who was supposed to be cross-examined by defence lawyers after his testimony.
He has testified about the confession statement obtained from the state’s 20th witness, who has been declared a hostile witness for giving contradictory evidence.
The accused, Imanuwela David and the Joseph siblings, Floriana and Ndilinasho, allegedly broke into President Cyril Ramaphosa’s farm in Bela Bela and stole 580 000 US dollars in February 2020.
Magistrate Peter Manthata postponed the trial to allow the investigating officer to seek medical attention.
“The witness is not well; I am sorry about the delay as the result the matter is postponed until next week the 23rd of March 2026 for further trial. Number one you are still in custody, number two and three on an extended bail, warned, half past eight, failure to come, warrant of arrest will be authorised against you and bail money forfeited to the state.”
