Pig farmer’s right to consult legal representative violated: Defense

The defense lawyer in the murder trial against a Limpopo pig farmer has told the High Court in Polokwane that his client’s right to consult a legal representative before making a confession statement to the police was violated.
Advocate Jakobus Venter has said that his client, Zachariah Olivier, wasn’t allowed to meet his lawyer.
The court is conducting a trial-within-a-trial on the admissibility of the confession statement made by Olivier.
Olivier and his co-accused are being tried for the murders of two women, Maria Makgato and Kudzai Ndlovu, at Onverwacht farm outside Polokwane in August 2024.
The women’s bodies were disposed of in the pigsty.
The investigating officer, Lieutenant Colonel Ntshengedzeni Mafukaduvha, said Olivier wasn’t forced to make a confession statement.
