PLU Delivers Relief Food Aid to Families Affected by the Kiteezi Landfill Disaster
This afternoon, a delegation from the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), led by Hon. Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, Minister of State for Gender, Labour, and Social Development in charge of Children and Youth Affairs, delivered relief food items to the families affected by the Kiteezi landfill disaster.
The relief package, which included 1,000 kgs of beans and 2,000 kgs of maize flour, was handed over to officials from the Uganda Red Cross Society and the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM).
The handover was witnessed by the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Justine Mbabazi, alongside other local authorities.
Hon. Balaam was accompanied by Hon. Cedric Babu, Vice Chairman of PLU Kampala, Hon. Wanda, Member of Parliament for Bungonko County, and other senior PLU leaders. During the event, Hon. Balaam expressed deep sympathy for the bereaved families and shared words of comfort with the displaced victims.
He also pledged to mobilize further support from his network and the broader PLU community to assist the displaced families currently sheltering at Kiteezi Church of Uganda Primary School.
In addition, Hon. Balaam commended the efforts of the Uganda Red Cross, alongside various government departments and ministries, for their dedication and work on the ground in response to the disaster.
John Cliff Wamala, an official from the Uganda Red Cross Society, who received the delegation, expressed gratitude for the relief provided and reaffirmed the Red Cross’s commitment to continuing humanitarian support to the affected families in line with its mandate.
