The Director of Crime Intelligence, Christopher Ddamulira, has said that the police, together with other sister security agencies, have intensified operations to combat crime across the country.
AIGP Ddamulira was responding to a headline in one of the daily newspapers that read, “Crime Takes Over.” While acknowledging recent cases of murder and break-ins, he emphasized that many of the incidents have been successfully investigated and resolved.
He revealed that between January 20 and 24, 2026, security operatives recovered four submachine guns in the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) area and arrested nine suspects. The suspects reportedly confessed to 12 murders, including the killing of ASP Bagenda, the officer in charge of Ntawo Police Station, who was gunned down late last year. Forensic investigations indicate that the recovered firearms were used in 30 incidents of aggravated robbery in KMP between June 2025 and January 2026.
Regarding the February 12 murder of Pamela Tumwebaze, a student at Uganda Christian University in Mukono, AIGP Ddamulira confirmed that the prime suspect was arrested with key exhibits and charged accordingly. He added that the victim’s family had since expressed appreciation for the efforts of the police and sister security agencies.
In the double murder at Dave Hotel in Lungujja, 21-year-old Allan Ssempala was charged with four counts of murder and aggravated robbery following the deaths of hotel manager Shivan Asasira and security guard Lawrence Musinguzi.
He also cited the case of Namulinde Diana, alias Skyz, a businesswoman and TikToker, noting that the matter was resolved after the suspect was arrested with exhibits and formally charged in court.
AIGP Ddamulira further stated that territorial commands remain on high alert, with intelligence-led operations ongoing across various divisions. In Kira Division, police arrested 130 habitual suspects; Nsangi Division apprehended 32 suspects; and Kira Road Division arrested 16 suspects. He added that officers from Crime Intelligence, the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), and forensic units are working diligently to screen suspects and ensure they are properly charged in courts of law.
“We are implementing targeted measures to address muggings at traffic lights, junctions, and in heavy traffic jams. These operations are being replicated countrywide to ensure the safety of Ugandans and their property,” AIGP Ddamulira said.
