By Ambrose Kwerondawww.mknewslink.comPresident Yoweri Museveni has remained tight-lipped about residents and local leaders’ demands to operationalize Kabale Tourism city.Kabale was one of the municipalities slated for city status in 2019 but saw its timeline extended to July 1, 2025, following delays in the implementation process. The State Minister of Finance for General Duties, Henry Ariganyira Musasizi, and Rubanda District leaders, including Deputy Speaker Pierre Mbabazi Ntegyereize and LC5 Chairman Stephen Ampeire Kasyaba also voiced opposition to the project. They rejected proposed annexations of Bubare Sub-County and parts of Nyamweru Sub-County into Kabale Municipality, claiming political favoritism and the sidelining of local interests. As Museveni campaigned from Rushebeya playground in Rukiga district and Kigezi high school primary playground in Kabale district residents and leaders leaders who include; David Bahati, Minister of State for Trade who also doubles as Ndorwa west county member of parliament, Patience Tusiime a resident of Katuna town council, Donozio Banga Owomugisha , a resident of Butanda sub county, Ann Kobusingye a resident of Nyakambu in Kabale municipality and Onesmus Mutungi, Maziba LC3 Chairman say people of Kigezi have waited for the city to start operations in vain. They say once the city starts operations, it will make Kigezi region develop in terms of tourism and economy. They want to allow the president to allow operations. Before the president started the address, Parliamentary speaker Anita Among jumped to the podium and called for patience saying that Kabale tourism city will soon start operations. Among however did not specify a specific time when it will start. In his address, Museveni remained silent about the issue of the city. Museveni instead condemned the vice of sectarianism based on religion that has stayed in Kigezi region. Museveni says he recently summoned all clergy from Kigezi region to Kakumiro district for benchmarking about modern methods of farming so that they pick knowledge and preach it to people rather than promoting sectarianism. Museveni questioned if Jesus is the one who asked them to promote sectarianism.Museveni explains that those who tend to engage in sectarian fights are the poor who have nothing to do and should be condemned as well as treated as devils.Museveni also asked people of Kigezi to massively vote for National Resistance Movement (NRM) party flag bearers in the coming general elections.
