Ramokgopa acknowledges electricity is expensive

Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa has acknowledged that electricity is expensive. However, he says government is working on an electricity pricing policy.
His comments comes as residents of Diepkloof, in Soweto, marched to Eskom’s Soweto offices demanding a flat rate tariff of R350 for their electricity consumption.
Residents say prepaid electricity is too costly and unaffordable.
Ramokgopa says the electricity pricing policy will aim to address affordable electricity tariffs for low-income households.
“Communities are within their rights to express their views; to galvanize like-minded people, they are expressing their views, it is part of that contribution and a democratic dispensation. People can’t be reprimanded for expressing that. They are feeling the pain. Electricity is very expensive.”
