Former MC Alger coach, Rulani Mokwena, is receiving consular assistance from the South African mission in Algeria after he was arrested for the alleged violation of the country’s currency regulations.
The mission says it’s in touch with Mokwena.
Mokwena was reportedly stopped by customs officials at Houari Boumediene Airport in Algiers amid allegations of attempting to leave the country with undeclared foreign currency.
The 39-year-old recently left MC Alger to link up with his former player and compatriot, Thembinkosi Lorch, at Libyan giants Al-Ittihad SC.
He parted ways with the Algerian champions just eight months into his contract.
Mokwena’s deal with the Libyan outfit makes him one of Africa’s highest-paid club coaches.
