Rwenzori Marathon: Coca-Cola Beverages to Keep Runners Hydrated

Coca-Cola Beverages Uganda has reaffirmed its commitment to the Tusker Lite Mount Rwenzori Marathon by stepping up as the official hydration partner for the event’s third edition.

The Marathon is due August 24th in picturesque Kasese district.

CCBU, a subsidiary of Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (CCBA), will ensure that runners remain hydrated throughout the race by providing Rwenzori Pure Natural Mineral Water at 12 hydration points strategically positioned along the marathon routes.

The organisers have confirmed that the stations will be spaced approximately every 3 kilometers, and will be well-equipped with tents, personnel, and a selection of Coca-Cola products, including options with sugar content to help long-distance runners maintain their energy levels.

The marathon is known for its breathtaking scenery and deep cultural ties, making hydration even more critical given the high temperatures expected in Kasese. The early morning start for the 42km race is designed to mitigate heat exposure, but the hydration points will be essential in preventing dehydration and heat-related illnesses, such as heatstroke.

Amos Wekesa, the Team Lead for the Tusker Lite Mount Rwenzori Marathon, praised CCBU for its continued partnership.

“Having Rwenzori Natural Mineral Water and Coca-Cola products available throughout the route aligns perfectly with our focus on the health and well-being of our runners,” Wekesa said.

“Given the heat and the challenging terrain, these hydration points will play a vital role in keeping our runners safe, energized, and ready to conquer the race.”

Last year, runners came from 14 countries, with Vitalis Kwemoi (42km, Men), Viola Chemos (42km, Women), Abel Chebet (21km, Men) and Dorcas Ajok (21km, Women), main winners.
