Long-serving URA midfielder Saidi Kyeyune has left the club, following the expiry of his three-year contract.

Kyeyune had signed three years in 2021 when he rejoined the Tax Collectors following his short professional stint with Sudan’s El Merrikh.

As the club confirmed Kyeyune’s departure, the Tax Collectors also expressed that their loyal servant would be welcomed back with open arms, at anytime he wished to return in another capacity.

“His (Kyeyune’s) dedication and leadership have left an memorable mark on the club. Recognizing his loyalty and contributions, URA has expressed interest in welcoming Kyeyune back in the future to serve as part of the support staff,” URA revealed on Wednesday.

“As Kyeyune embarks on a new chapter in his career, URA FC extends heartfelt gratitude and best wishes for his future endeavors.”

Kyeyune initially joined URA from Maroons in 2011, and went on to establish himself as one of the best midfielders at the club, and in the Uganda Premier League at large.

At URA, Kyeyune notably formed a formidable midfield partnership with former club captain Shafik Kagimu, going on to become an integral part of the team for over a decade.

The midfielder has represented URA in the CAF Confederation Cup, and was instrumental as the Tax Collectors won the Uganda Cup in 2014, plus the Mapinduzi Cup in 2018.

In 2018, Kyeyune left URA for Proline, but made a quick return to his former club later.

The midfielder made a big move to Sudanese Giants El Merrikh, following his remarkable campaign with the Uganda Cranes at the 2021 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Cameroon, where he partnered with his then teammate Kagimu to produce some exhilarating perfomances on national duty.

Kyeyune’ stay in Sudan was short-lived, and he eventually returned ‘home’ to URA the same year. Last season, he was given full captaincy, and led the team to an 8th place finish in the league.
