SANTACO condemns killing of 30-year-old taxi driver in Evaton


The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) in Gauteng has condemned the shooting and killing of a 30-year-old taxi driver in Evaton on Wednesday.
Police say the deceased, who is affiliated with the Orange Vaal Taxi Association, was killed in a drive-by shooting on the Golden Highway.
Police have opened a case of murder.
SANTACO Gauteng spokesperson Graham Fritz says they are working with law enforcement agencies to arrest the perpetrators.
“We strongly condemn any form of violence within the industry. Violence has no place in our sectior as it undermines the stability, unity and progress that the industry continues to work hard to build. SANTACO Gauteng is closely monitoring the situation and remains committed to working with all relevant stakeholders to maintain peace and stability within the industry. We urge anyone who may have information regarding this tragic shooting to come forward and assist law enforcement authorities so that those responsibilities can be brought to justice.”
