Severe thunderstorms are expected in four provinces on Sunday afternoon.

SAWS issues severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Gauteng

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Gauteng, excluding the City of Tshwane, on Monday.
Heavy downpours, localised flooding, hail and damaging winds are expected.
“We currently have a high pressure system reaching in the east that is expected to result in more moisture, that may enhance a possibility of severe thunderstorms into the afternoons,” says Weather Forecaster, Lehlohonolo Thobela.

Thobela says this will not only impact Gauteng, but also the Northern Cape, the North West, Free State- and the southern parts of KwaZulu Natal, but it will become significant with low likelihood though, over the northern parts of KwaZulu Natal and the escarpments of Mpumalanga.
“So, expect more heavy downpours, that may lead to localised flooding and a possibility of damaging winds, hail and excessive lightning into the evening,” adds Thobela.
