Sergeant Fannie Nkosi denies celebrating raid at Matlala’s house

Member of Gauteng’s organised crime unit, Sergeant Fannie Nkosi, has denied celebrating a raid at Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala’s house with taxi boss Joe Sibanyoni.
Evidence before the Madlanga Commission in Pretoria has shown that Nkosi sent a message to Sibanyoni on December 5, 2024, a day before Matlala’s home was raided.
The message, which was accompanied by fist emojis, read ‘today is Laduma’.
Sergeant Nkosi returns to the stand for further cross-examination on Wednesday morning.
Evidence leader Adv Matthew Chaskalson put it to Sergeant Nkosi that the message to Sibanyoni the day before Matlala’s home was raided looked as though Nkosi was pre-emptively celebrating the news of the search.
Adv Chaskalson also revealed that Sergeant Nkosi forwarded a message to Sibanyoni on the day of the raid informing him that the special task force had arrived at Matlala’s house.
It has also emerged that Matlala has, in the past, allegedly tried to kill Sibanyoni.
The allegations were confirmed by Sergeant Nkosi, who said that he doesn’t know if Matlala and Sibanyoni made peace after the incident.
