Speaker Among Suspends Parliamentary Sessions Till Next Week

The Speaker of Parliament, Anitah Annet Among has directed the Clerk to Parliament Adolf Mwesige to cancel this week’s plenary sittings without giving a reason.
The plenary is set to resume next Tuesday, July 30th, 2024.
This follows protests demanding her resignation over corruption allegations, resulting in over 60 arrests and remands to Luzira prison for idle and disorderly conduct.
However, the government Chief Whip, Hamson Obua has revealed that Speaker Among was compelled to call of today’s plenary sitting, because the presiding officer of today’s sitting was holding a “strategic” meeting with President Museveni at the time the sitting was meant to take place.
“I know that the Presiding Officer, under the Parliamentary calendar who is supposed to chair the sitting today is at the moment involved in a strategic meeting with the head of state,” said Obua.
