State challenges Ntanzi’s alibi in Meyiwa murder trial

The cross-examination of Bongani Ntanzi, one of the five accused in the murder of former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa, was again dominated by denials and accusations.
On Tuesday, Ntanzi claimed the state has insufficient evidence against him.
During cross-examination, State Prosecutor, Advocate George Baloyi put it to Ntanzi that according to his employer, he had been absent without leave from work between 27 and 31 October 2014.
Meyiwa was shot and killed in October 2014 at the home of his singer girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo. Ntanzi and four others are standing trial for his murder at the High Court in Pretoria.
Ntanzi insists that he had followed proper procedures to go on leave.
“Hence I am asking my lord, where does this information come from that my whereabouts where unknown at work because if I had stayed away for five days I would have been fired. From what is being read here, it says status, leave approved. It indicates that I have applied and approved. But initially, it was said my whereabouts are unknown.”
