Super 8: KCCA Vs NEC: Mubiru Confident Despite Scoring Woes

Tuesday, August 6*NEC Vs Vipers – Lugogo, 5pm*KCCA Vs Kitara – Lugogo, 8pm

KCCA coach Abdallah Mubiru remains optimistic about his team’s offensive capabilities despite their recent struggles to find the net.

The Kasasiro Boys aim to overturn a first-leg deficit against Kitara in the FUFA Super Eight quarterfinal clash set for Tuesday at Lugogo.

Kitara edged the first leg with a 1-0 victory on Saturday at Lugogo, courtesy of a goal from Denis Omedi.

KCCA’s attack appeared lackluster, a situation exacerbated by the departure of last season’s top scorer, Shaban Muhammad.

The absence of young striker Abu Mayanja, who started in the first leg but has since been ruled out, adds to KCCA’s challenges.

New signing Emmanuel Anyama, who joined from Kaaro Karungi, is expected to shoulder the scoring responsibilities.

Anyama came on as a substitute in the first leg and missed a crucial chance to equalize after being set up brilliantly.

KCCA’s performance will need to be clinical against a steadfast Kitara defense, which has shown little tolerance for mistakes.

Mubiru acknowledges the need to capitalize on scoring opportunities to progress in the tournament.

“We are still in preseason, actually we are in our third week of our preseason. Preseason goes with a lot of loading, finding combinations, building certain elements in a team,” Mubiru explained.

“I am happy that players are acclimatizing at a high speed. We are trying to combine many things, and you could see that in our last game, we tried to do some combinations here and there.

“We failed to find the back of the net but yes, there is something that we are trying to cook. But still, we are not going to go away from that.

“We respect the tournament of Super 8, and we are going to try and overturn the result. We have the confidence, capability, and capacity to score more than one goal.”

It’s worth noting that Kitara, under coach Brian Ssenyondo, has proven to be a hard nut for KCCA, having secured victories both home and away in the league last season.

As the two teams prepare to face off once again, KCCA will be hoping to find their scoring touch and advance to the next stage of the competition.
