Taxi driver killed, two others injured in N3 crash near Cato Ridge


A taxi driver has been killed and two other people seriously injured in a crash on the N3 near Cato Ridge in KwaZulu-Natal.
The crash happened after the taxi driver moved to the wrong side resulting in a head on collision with another vehicle on Saturday night.
Paramedics say the taxi was travelling on the Pietermaritzburg bound lane towards Durban when the collision happened.
Advanced Life Support paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson says jaws of life were used free the trapped occupants of both vehicles.
“Paramedics quickly assessed the scene and found both drivers entrapped in the wreckage. Immediately, the eThekwini Fire Department was dispatched to assist. The taxi driver, a male believed to be in his thirties had sustained fatal injuries and unfortunately, there was nothing paramedics could do for him and he was declared deceased on the scene. In the bakkie, the two occupants had sustained serious injuries and whilst Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilise them, they were cut free from the wreckage by the Ethekweni Fire Department,” says Jamieson.
