Samuel Kiwanuka, a Project Coordinator and Geography teacher at Uganda Martyrs S.S Namugongo, has urged parents to always facilitate their children when it comes to practical work during school time.
Speaking during the Senior Four 2026 project exhibition held under the theme “Utilization of Available Resources for Community Development” at the school, Kiwanuka said project work requires a significant amount of money to purchase materials needed for the projects. He therefore encouraged parents to support their children with the necessary resources to enable them perform well.
Students exhibiting to the parents
Kiwanuka explained that project work is part of the school curriculum, and the marks obtained from these projects are added to the final examination results, contributing to a student’s overall academic performance.
He also urged students to remain focused and determined despite challenges if they want to achieve success in life.
During the exhibition, several innovative projects were showcased by the students. Some students demonstrated how to extract biogas from animal waste, which can be used for cooking or even sold to generate income. Others creatively used old vehicle tyres to make chairs that can also be sold.
Some of the students who exhibited
Students who participated in the exhibition said they plan to use the knowledge acquired during school holidays before joining A-Level to develop similar projects that can help them earn money while also contributing to development in their communities.
Some parents who attended the exhibition expressed excitement after seeing their children present different projects. They noted that such practical skills are important because they equip students with knowledge that can help them succeed in life.
