UCU Lady Canons Eye Sweep Over Magic Stormers
Tuesday, July 30*Magic Stormers Vs UCU Lady Canons – 7pm*UCU Lady Canons Vs KCCA Panthers – 9pm
UCU Lady Canons hope to complete a sweep over the Magic Stormers and secure their place in the Semifinals of the ongoing National Basketball League Playoffs.
This fixture at YMCA court in Wandegeya is one of the two rare Tuesday matchups as FUBA aims to wrap up the Quarterfinals.
The other remaining fixture features the UCU Canons against the KCCA Panthers in the Men’s division.
In the Women’s division, the trio of JKL Lady Dolphins, JT Lady Jaguars and KIU Rangers have already secured their spots in the semifinals.
The Lady Canons currently lead the best-of-three series 1-0, having narrowly won the first game 48-46 on July 13.
The Lady Canons appeared to be in control early on, leading 29-19 at halftime. However, a strong third quarter from the Magic Stormers tied the game at 37-37 going into the final quarter.
The game remained tightly contested, with the score tied three times in the last quarter. UCU eventually edged out the win thanks to a crucial floater from Shakirah Nanvubya down the stretch.
Despite their victory, UCU has areas to improve, notably their three-point shooting, as they missed all 25 attempts in game one.
Additionally, they were narrowly out-rebounded 48-49.
On the other hand, the Magic Stormers were hampered by 24 turnovers, with Zainah Lokwameri (10 points) being their only player to score in double digits.
A win for the Magic Stormers will force a deciding game three.
Nicholas Natuhereza will however hope to get two job done early and advance to the Semifinals, where defending Champions JKL Lady Dolphins await.
