Uganda Cranes: Salim Jamal On Exclusion from AFCON Squad

0

Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Salim Jamal took to Twitter to address concerns about his exclusion from the recent Uganda Cranes squad summoned for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against South Africa and Congo.

In his tweet, Jamal defended his professionalism and responded to claims of indiscipline that have been associated with him in the past.

“Being straight isn’t indiscipline and I have never been an indisciplined player,” Jamal stated.

“Played for 6 professional clubs, no suspension. I made peace with the Uganda Cranes but framing me out as an indisciplined player must stop. If you don’t like someone it’s okay, we support others.”

The goalkeepers summoned are Isma Watenga (Golden Arrows FC, South Africa), Nafian Alionzi (Defence Forces FC, Ethiopia), and Charles Lukwago (Venda FC, South Africa).

Despite being a seasoned goalkeeper with a wealth of experience, Jamal was notably left out.

Jamal has had a history of public friction with the Federation (FUFA). Notably, in 2020, he was cautioned by FUFA for his social media comments made during the 2019 AFCON tournament in Egypt.

However, the Richards Bay shot stopper maintains that he has always conducted himself professionally on and off the pitch.
