Uganda Prisons Suspends Visits to Prisoners during Festive Days


Kampala– As we left with a few days to Christmas and New Year’s eve, the Commissioner General of Prisons Dr. Johnson Byabashaija, has has declared a standby class one order.

In this declaration, Byabashaija ordered that prison safety, security, intelligence, and coordination must be strengthened through close coordination with sister security and intelligence agencies.
“Prisoners’ visitations will be suspended from 24th-27th December 2025,1st-4th January 2026 and 14th-16th January 2026.” Reads part of the statement signed by Frank Baine Uganda Prisons Spokesperson.
That, the system of hiring out prisoners for labour, has been suspended with immediate effect.
For the side of prisons officers, the commissioner emphasized it, that only exceptional staff leave will be granted.
“Any Officer in Charge who fails to comply with these guidelines will be personally held responsible.” Warned Frank Baine Senior Commissioner of Prisons.
