Uganda’s Fight for Freedom Can’t Wait » The Hoima Post –
The Gate is Open, But Who Will Step Out?
A Reflection on Uganda’s Fear of Freedom and the Urgency of Resistance
By Alexander Luyima
For years, I kept my chickens indoors. One day, I opened the gate—hoping they’d roam, explore, and taste freedom. But they didn’t. Conditioned by confinement, they stayed put, paralyzed by the unknown. I had to force them out, only for them to scurry nervously, uncertain of what to do with their newfound “liberty.”
This isn’t just a tale about poultry. It is a piercing metaphor for Uganda.
A Nation Caged by Familiar Chains
Ugandans have lived under the iron grip of Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and his clique of cronies for nearly four decades. Conditioned to believe that crumbs from the regime’s table are a privilege, many have become emotionally loyal to their own oppression. The gate to freedom is open, yet too many remain frozen at the threshold—crippled by fear, skepticism, and decades of psychological warfare.
Renowned academic and cartoonist Dr. Jimmy Spire Ssentongo puts it bluntly:
> “Freedom is a mindset before it is a political reality. Many Ugandans have been so deeply programmed to submit that even the idea of liberation terrifies them.”
That psychological submission is the regime’s most powerful weapon—more potent than bullets or teargas.
Museveni’s Reign of Terror: A Warning Before 2026
Let’s not sugarcoat it: General Yoweri Museveni is not a president—he is a dictator. His rule thrives on fear, manipulation, and systematic human rights violations. As Uganda hurtles toward the 2026 general elections, history warns us of what’s to come: mass arrests, media blackouts, torture chambers like Nalufenya, and yes—deaths.
> “We are not just up against a regime—we are up against a mafia state,” warns Hon. Lutamaguzi Semakula, MP for Nakaseke South.
“This is a fight for survival. We are already in the line of fire—some of us may not make it. But if we remain silent, we are handing the next generation over to tyranny.”
And he’s right. I may be a target. You may be a target. Any of us who dare to speak out or organize against this dictatorship is already on a silent list. But this is our motherland. If we don’t rise now, what will be left?
Robert Kyagulanyi: A Symbol, Not a Saviour
Bobi Wine (Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu), a former pop artist turned freedom fighter, has consistently risked his life to unshackle Ugandans from fear. His mantra—People Power, Our Power—is not merely a chant. It’s a soul-stirring call to collective awakening.
> “I don’t want to be your hero,” Kyagulanyi declared. “I want you to recognize that YOU are the hero Uganda has been waiting for. Don’t fear the freedom you deserve—walk through the gate and let’s build a new Uganda together.”
He’s not asking us to worship him—he’s asking us to wake up.
Nina Kankunda Speaks: The Time Is Now
Nina Kankunda, an artist, activist, and Woman MP Aspirant for Ssembabule District, speaks boldly:
> “We are not spectators in this tragedy. Uganda belongs to us, not a handful of looters. We must demand what is rightfully ours—freedom, fairness, and future. This is not politics. This is survival. This is justice.”
A Call to Defiance
The gate is open. But freedom is not guaranteed—it must be seized. We cannot outsource our liberation. It will take blood, sweat, tears, and unwavering unity. Whether you’re in Kampala or the diaspora, this is the moment to rise.
What You Must Do:
Organize in your communities and districts.
Challenge propaganda and spread the truth.
Support freedom fighters—digitally and physically.
Use your voice online and offline—fearlessly.
Vote wisely, but more importantly, protect the vote.
Stand ready—the fight is not coming. It is already here.
This is not about Bobi Wine. This is not about elections alone. This is about reclaiming a stolen country from the hands of thieves and murderers.
Because freedom, once tasted, can never be untasted.
Join the Movement. Share the Truth. Be the Fire.

Trade War or Power Grab? The Real Battle Between the U.S. and China » The Hoima Post –

By Alexander Luyima | Director Community Programs and Information (ADSON)
At this stage of the so-called “trade war,” you might be asking: Why did the United States decide to confront China in the first place? President Donald J. Trump, now serving his second, non-consecutive term, claims it’s about fair trade. But that’s a distraction. The deeper reality is much more ominous: this isn’t about trade — it’s about global dominance and survival.
According to senior U.S. military officials, a direct military confrontation with China isn’t a far-off scenario — it’s a real possibility in 2025.
To understand why, we need to examine the machinery behind the global system: globalization. Since the end of World War II, the process of globalization — linking countries economically, politically, and culturally — has followed a Western-led blueprint. While European empires formally collapsed, their strategies and privileges quietly transferred to American hands.
As JD Vance, a leading voice in the current administration, explained:
> “The plan was always for America and other rich countries to stay at the top of the value chain, while developing nations stayed cheap and dependent.”
In other words, it was neocolonialism — the same imperial playbook, updated for the 20th and 21st centuries. Western-led institutions like the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank were designed not just to “help” poor countries, but to discipline them, ensuring they didn’t challenge the Western order.
Whenever nations tried to chart an independent course — whether through nationalizing their resources or aligning with alternative powers — the U.S. responded with coups, sanctions, or military intervention. This worldview is rooted in centuries of orientalist and imperialist thinking, assuming that the Global South would never rise to challenge the Global North.
But the system cracked.
> “The countries that manufacture eventually become the ones that innovate,” admitted a U.S. Vice President during an off-the-record security briefing.
“We built this system to exploit them, but now they’re winning at our own game.”
China didn’t just survive the Western-led global economy — it mastered it. Today, it leads in electric vehicles, solar energy, AI, semiconductors, 5G, and digital finance. It’s the largest trading partner for more than half the world, including many Western allies. Its rise isn’t due to communism or authoritarianism — it’s because it played the capitalist game better than the architects expected.
China is also challenging the supremacy of the U.S. dollar through new digital finance systems. Its growing influence across Latin America, Africa, and Southeast Asia is forging new alliances that bypass traditional Western power. It’s even gaining moral capital by publicly supporting Palestinian liberation, positioning itself as a champion for the Global South.
Meanwhile, under President Trump, the U.S. is doubling down. We see this in the battle for mineral rights in Ukraine, efforts to control Arctic resources like Greenland, the demonization of immigrants, the weaponization of tariffs — and the continued support of Israeli aggression in Gaza.
Let’s be clear:
This isn’t a trade war. It’s a war for global leadership. For control of finance, innovation, morality, and power.
China is refusing to stay in its assigned role in the world order. And for the first time in decades, the United States is facing a serious competitor not just militarily, but economically, technologically, and ideologically.
So what do we do?
We organize. We resist. We build real alternatives to imperialism and global exploitation.
