Cairo, Egypt — As part of Uganda’s commitment to empowering the next generation of leaders, Mr. Wabusimba Amiri, a youth delegate and strategic communication expert, proudly represented the country at the 2025 Nasser International Leadership Fellowship in Cairo. The prestigious fellowship, organized under the patronage of H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, convened outstanding young leaders from 80 countries across the Global South for dialogue on diplomacy, leadership, and sustainable development.
Mr. Wabusimba, one of Uganda’s selected delegates, participated in high-level discussions aimed at strengthening multilateral cooperation, with a strong focus on the role of youth in advancing global governance. He shared reflections on youth engagement in policy-making and the need for inclusive representation across leadership platforms. “Representing young leaders of Uganda on such a global stage was both humbling and empowering. The call to action from Egypt’s leadership reminded us that youth are not only future leaders we are active contributors today,” said Wabusimba.
In recognition of his efforts and in line with diplomatic tradition, Mr. Wabusimba paid a courtesy visit to Uganda’s Deputy Ambassador to Egypt, Lt. Gen. Charles Angina, at the Ugandan Embassy in Cairo. During the meeting, he presented his official certificate of participation in the fellowship and shared a book he authored during the program.
Lt. Gen. Angina commended Mr. Wabusimba for his dedication and exemplary conduct during the fellowship. “Your participation reflects Uganda’s deep commitment to nurturing young leaders with a global outlook. We encourage others to emulate your leadership,” remarked the Deputy Ambassador.
The two also discussed current bilateral cooperation between Uganda and Egypt, including a proposal under consideration by Uganda’s Ministry of Veteran Affairs involving the export of Ugandan raw materials to support Egypt’s Armed Forces Management and Administration Agency, with a potential return in the form of medical supplies—an initiative described as a model of practical economic diplomacy.
While in Cairo, Mr. Wabusimba engaged in a cultural dialogue session with acclaimed journalist and historian Mr. Mahmoud El-Tamimi, centered on the legacy of Egypt’s music legend Umm Kulthum. Reflecting on the experience, Wabusimba noted: “Her music transcends language. Even without understanding Arabic, one can feel the depth and power of her voice. It is a living testament to the unifying force of art and a strong tool of soft power.”
The fellowship journey was made possible through the support of notable partners in Uganda. Mr. Wabusimba expressed sincere gratitude to Mr. Muhammad Jibril Amum, Country Director of the Muslim World League, and Mrs. Margaret Kafeero, Head of Public Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, whose Air ticket sponsorship and coordination ensured successful participation. “Their constant encouragement ‘Amiri, you must go’ was the driving force behind this achievement,” he added.
Concluding his mission, Mr. Wabusimba emphasized the importance of cultural diplomacy, public engagement, and youth-led innovation as powerful tools for Africa’s transformation. He called on fellow young leaders across the continent to integrate these values into their work for unity, progress, and sustainable development. Mr. Wabusimba Amiri is a Ugandan youth leader, jouranlist, and CEO of Shanix Marketing and Media Agency. He is currently pursuing diplomatic training and has over a decade of experience in media, communication, and advocacy.
