Avoid Sectarian Politics, Focus on Service Delivery – Bamuturaki Tells Opponents

Mbarara | December 31, 2025
The Kashari South aspiring Member of Parliament and former Mbarara District LC5 Chairperson, John Bosco Bamuturaki Tumusiime, has cautioned political opponents against engaging in sectarian and religious politics, warning that such diversionary narratives risk inciting violence and derailing national development.
Bamuturaki made the remarks on Tuesday during a campaign rally held at Rwentojo, where National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders and flag bearers addressed voters and rallied them to support the ruling party ahead of the 2026 general elections.
He urged both the electorate and fellow politicians to reject politics based on religion, clan, or sectarian identity, noting that several countries have collapsed due to such divisions.
“That business of saying we should choose leaders based on religion or clans is diversionary and it is not taking us anywhere as Uganda,” Bamuturaki said. “We should support leaders with the capacity to deliver, leaders who can lobby government for services on the ground. Our people need water, electricity and roads.”

Bamuturaki emphasized that development, not identity politics, should guide voters’ choices, warning that sectarianism only benefits a few self-seeking politicians at the expense of national unity.
He further called on the public to remain security-conscious as the country enters the new year, citing a presidential directive aimed at curbing acts that threaten peace and stability.
“There is a clear presidential directive that whoever abuses security during this period will be prosecuted. Police and other security agencies are already on the ground gathering evidence, and anyone found promoting sectarianism will be charged in courts of law,” he added.
Bamuturaki’s remarks come amid heightened political activity across the country as candidates intensify campaigns ahead of the 2026 polls.
