Mr. Kumumanya made the remarks while addressing a meeting of Local Government Communication Officers on Wednesday at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala, where he highlighted the strategic importance of communication in ensuring citizens are well informed about government policies, programmes and development initiatives implemented at the local government level.
He noted that timely and accurate dissemination of information enhances public trust and enables communities to actively engage with government processes.
During the same meeting, the Permanent Secretary presided over the handover of laptops to the communication officers, saying the equipment would significantly ease their work by improving efficiency, timeliness and accuracy in information sharing.
According to Mr. Kumumanya, the laptops were delivered in fulfillment of a pledge made during the previous meeting of Communication Officers held last year, reaffirming government’s commitment to equipping its information officers with the necessary tools to effectively carry out their mandate.
He encouraged the officers to use the equipment responsibly and innovatively to strengthen public engagement and project a positive image of government service delivery across the country.
As he concluded the meeting, Mr. Kumumanya also called on the communication officers to widely publicise local government job advertisements, noting that increased visibility would help attract qualified candidates, address unfilled positions and contribute to tackling unemployment.
