Mujabi Makes Winning Start as Bugema Crush Gulu in AUUS Games Opener

New Bugema University head coach Ephraim Mujabi could not have asked for a better start at his temporary new home, as his side delivered a dominant 40–19 victory over Gulu University in the Group C opener of the AUUS Games 2025 on Friday at Uganda Christian University, Mukono.
Mujabi, watched his charges impose themselves from the first whistle, setting the tone early and never allowing the debutant Gulu side to settle. Bugema took control in the opening quarter, winning it by a five-goal margin and laying the foundation for a comfortable afternoon.

The pressure continued into the second quarter, where Bugema maintained their superiority despite a slower scoring rate. By halftime, Mujabi’s side had stretched their advantage to seven goals, heading into the break with a 19–12 lead.
The third quarter proved decisive. Bugema raised the tempo and efficiency in attack, scoring 12 goals while shutting Gulu down to just four — the visitors’ lowest return of the match. That surge effectively put the contest beyond doubt.
Bugema completed the rout in the final quarter, adding nine more goals as Gulu managed only three, sealing an emphatic 40–19 victory and handing Mujabi a memorable first competitive win on the Bugema bench.
Speaking after the match, Mujabi was clear about his ambitions.

“We’re in this championship to win, not to participate. Yes, we had a good start. As a coach, my role is to add value to the teams I coach and to improve the game of my athletes,” he said.
Bugema’s task, however, becomes much tougher on day two as they face group heavyweights and tournament hosts Uganda Christian University (UCU).
“UCU is a good team. They have my mentor Nelson Bogere in coaching, and I respect them. But as Bugema, we are going to display our best game because our immediate target is to make it out of the group,” Mujabi added.
Day two of the AUUS Games Netball Championship features six fixtures on the card:
Day Two Fixtures
Kampala University vs Makerere University (9am)
MUBS vs Gulu UniversityBishop Stuart University vs Victoria University
MUST vs Kyambogo University
Nkumba University vs St Lawrence University
Uganda Christian University vs Bugema University
All eyes will be on Mujabi and Bugema as they test their early momentum against the hosts in what promises to be a key Group C showdown.
