The Minister for the Presidency and NRM flag bearer for Budiope West Constituency, Hon. Babirye Milly Babalanda, has cautioned party leaders against engaging in divisive politics, urging them instead to champion unity and hope as the constituency heads into a decisive electoral season.
Speaking during a meeting with all NRM structures in Kidera Town Council midweek, Minister Babalanda said leaders must set the right example for the younger generation and strengthen the party’s prospects of securing victory in Budiope West.
She rallied support for the NRM National Chairman, H.E. Gen. (Rtd) Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, and all party flag bearers, reiterating the need for collective effort to advance and protect the party’s ideological gains.
“As NRM, we must work together to push the party’s ideologies and protect the gains we have made,” she said.
Babalanda urged voters to scrutinize leaders based on their manifestos, warning them not to be swayed by individuals who merely insult opponents without offering a transformative plan.
“Don’t trust leaders who come only to abuse others; let them explain what they will do for you. That is how you transform an area,” she emphasized.
She added that her own leadership record speaks through service delivery: “Personally, I have exhibited the true character of leadership even before being elected. I have handled every sector of service to try to transform this area.”
The minister further tasked NRM leaders to act as watchdogs over government programmes to ensure efficiency and proper implementation.
Hon. Babalanda is seeking her first term as Member of Parliament for Budiope West in the 12th Parliament.
The meeting drew attendance from Buyende RDC Komakechi Salim, his deputies, NRM structures from all 32 villages under Kidera Town Council (30 representatives per village), district youth leaders, and other area officials.
