Badminton Uganda has extended its grassroots development drive to Northern Uganda, conducting a Shuttle Time training workshop for school sports teachers in Pader District.
The one-day session, held at Archbishop Flynn Secondary School, attracted 20 sports teachers from various schools across the district, equipping them with fundamental coaching skills and knowledge required to introduce and nurture badminton in their institutions.
This marks the fourth district visited under the ongoing Shuttle Time program, following earlier workshops in Rwampara, Kayunga, and Nakaseke. The project, launched last month, aims to build a strong foundation for badminton in schools across the country.
Speaking during the workshop, Simon Mugabi, the CEO of Badminton Uganda, emphasized the federation’s commitment to spreading the sport to all corners of the country.

“We want to ensure that every school in Pader gets involved in badminton. With this kind of project, talent identification becomes easier,” Mugabi said.
His remarks were echoed by Nasser George William, the Chairperson of the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) in Pader District, who noted that more schools are now ready to participate in badminton events at district and regional levels.

Participants expressed gratitude for the hands-on training, saying the workshop had equipped them with the confidence and skills needed to introduce the sport in their schools.
The Shuttle Time program will continue in Busia, Iganga, and Rubanda districts before the end of the year, according to officials. So far, more than 100 teachers from the four covered districts have benefited from the initiative
