On 1st.Oct.2025,at Munyonyo Common Wealth Resort Hotel, the National Resistance Movement [NRM] Presidential candidate,H.E.Yoweri Kaguta Museveni launched the 2026-2031 NRM-Manifesto under the theme: “Protecting the Gains and Securing a Qualitative Leap into High Middle-Income Status.”
Since then,I have seen & heard a number of colleagues in the alternative Govt asking which gains are Ugandans have to protect & claiming that there are no any gains to protect.Really?
That’s totally false,the truth,however,is that in Uganda, the gains to protect are there in every house hold and numerous,
Whereas I agree that all isn’t yet well as many of us would wish to see,but I can’t refute the fact that there are gains to protect & alot are in the pipeline.
And by the way these Gains to protect are in different forms;
That small business you own no matter how little it gives you is a gain to protect.
That job no matter how little you earn at the of the month out of it is a gain to protect.
That freedom to question or check the Govt in power is also a gain to protect because in some countries,Citizens don’t.
That peaceful & stable environment that has allowed you to own a business,have Education,get a job,have a family etc is a gain to protect.
That freedom to belong to the alternative Govt is also a gain to protect,it’s a gain because in some countries,Citizens have no option other than supporting the ruling system/establishment.
That plot of land,a beach,farm,mudala of chapati,a wholesale shop,boutique shop, hotel, salon, boda-boda, taxi etc you own is again to protect.
That freedom to belong to any religious faith of your choice at your own individual convenience is a gain to protect.
That environment that allows you to own/run or lead a civil organisation itself is a gain to protect.
That peaceful & stable environment that allows you to enjoy your life from any place of your choice at anytime across the country without any fear of insecurity is also a gain to protect because in some countries,there isn’t such freedom,peace & stability.
That school you send your children to is again to protect.
That health facility you rush to whenever you fall sick is a gain to protect.
That police you run to for help whenever you experience any form of insecurity & that protects you & your property is a gain to protect.
That national army that has kept your country’s territorial integrity intact from any external aggression or internal threats for almost 4 decades is a gain to protect.
That court you go to whenever you face injustice in the pursuit of your individual endeavours is a gain to protect.
I can go on and on.
And while some idealists may argue that these are not entitlements but rights of the citizenry,and that the government is under the obligations to provide so to taxpayers,the fact that there are some countries where Citizens hardly or totally do not enjoy these rights that alone absolutely makes them gains in countries where they’re provided.
